Segment-Wise Growth Trends

  • The Indian solar power segment has grown rapidly over the past few years to cross 72.31 GW of total installations as of November 2023, much more than any other clean power source.
  • While much of this is utility-scale solar with 55, 958 GW, the total installed capacity for rooftop solar plants has reached 11,079 MW as of November 2023, and the remaining from hybrids and off-grid.
  • The total installed wind capacity as of November 2023 is roughly 44.56 GW.. The wind segment has not grown at pace with the solar segment due to challenges in terms of cost escalation, delays in power purchase agreements and competition from solar power.
  • The corporate power procurement market is growing rapidly as more commercial and industrial consumers demand for clean and green power.

Energy Generation Trends

  • Renewable energy generation reached 203,552 MU in 2022-23 vis-à-vis 170,912 MU in the previous year. Till November 2023, 264,310.32 MU of renewable energy generation has been achieved.
  • The energy generation from renewables has seen a significant rise from 2014 levels.
  • The renewable energy generation is being led by solar energy.
  • 75,725 MU of solar energy was generated between April 2023 and November 2023, showing a 17 per cent rise from the previous year for the same time period.
  • The YoY growth in generation is for wind energy showed 16.5 per cent YoY growth between April 2022 and March 2023 from the previous year period with total of 64,711 MU generation.
